File Sharing Shutdown

FBI Shutdown
by BLOKE 4 years ago (Feb 07, 2012) in Wtf
On Jan. 19, Megaupload, a major file sharing site, was shut down by the FBI and its owners were charged with copyright infringement, according to an article on In addition, PC Mag said they were also charged with "conspiring to commit money laundering, and two substantive counts of criminal copyright infringement. If convicted, those involved face up to 50 years in prison on all charges."
The money laundering charge comes from Megaupload being accused of illegally profiting off of copyrighted content that was put on their website and distributed to other websites through links; content such as movies, music, books, TV shows and software. However, Megaupload was not just a haven for copyrighted content.

One of the most popular bittorrent sites, BTjunkie, has been "voluntarily" shut down in the wake of last month's closure of Megaupload. The founder of the site told TorrentFreak that legal action against other filesharing sites, such as Megaupload and The Pirate Bay, had played an important part in his decision.

Maybe the end is near!

I love they run from out side the USA and can't be shut down. Go PB.

MegaUpload was also run outside of the US, but them got them anyway. The thing is that data uploads kept at a centralized server a la MG and dis-centralized distributed data on user side clients are totally different technology (torrents). You can shut down one with the right intelligence and the necessary legal mumbo-jumbo to persecute across borders, but for torrents, they'd have to shut down ever single user on the net, impossible.

big mistake that guy made was moving his business reg to the cocos islands in 2009 from hong kong. Even though the cocos island is 3000kms from oz and only 500kms from Indonesia with only 1 cop it is Australian territory where Australian laws apply.

BT Junkie was my favorite but Kickass Torrents is also a good alternative.

I'm not trying to advocate for anyone, but... why don't YOU become one of those assholes with no real job if it's so easy?

Lil Wayne, Kesha, The spice Girls... Anyone on H6 has the same amount of "talent" as them yet they are worth millions! It's only easy if your in the right place at the right time, that to me doesn't deserve my money!
        • deleted | 4 years ago | 1 point
The people with the real talent are the ones who deserve the money but are usually the ones who do it for the music NOT the money. As Brian May once said to a reporter who asked if queen carried on after mercury died for the money "do you think I really need to money or the fame, we're doing this for the fans and the music"

This little fucker keeps going on about people getting jobs to prove they are worth something. If only it were as easy as going to a place, asking for a job and them giving you one. It seems that way, but it's not.

In the case of Kesha I believe it was going to a place, asking for a job and them GIVING ;) her one

No we are not!!! :P There's still countries like China where cars like Rovs Roivs, Rugatti and Bamborgini are being sold... If you know what I mean... lol

According to the last State of the Union Address, you won't have access to China in any form on the internet. O'Blowme happened to mention 5 times in the course of a few minutes as to limiting the Internet, eliminating online trade. Look it up.
        • LoneGunman | 4 years ago | 2 points
There are little things called internet relays and ip spoofing software, plus other ways for digital communication besides the internet. If the chinese can get past the biggest and most secure firewall in the world, the "Golden Shield Project" or "Great Firewall of China", then so can we. "Look it up."

Yeah too bad our government could execute you for doing it if they so choose. They can do anything they want.

There are tons of 3rd world countries. They have electricity and internet, but have no laws. Africa, S. America, most S. Asian countries...

someone who knows how and wants too can just go darkweb and get anything at all that you want.
            • Evermind | 4 years ago | 2 points
I'm pretty damn sure that our government has the ablities to make our Internet as we know it not exist. Look at Korea.

They can't even get the truth about Kim Jong Ill's death.. or the photo taken of his parade down whatever street it was.

i must have been the only one that learnt about only after FBI closed it down - i still believe they are using the "piracy" as a cover for their will to close down as they like = why close wikeleaks ? because it posted some facts that some did not like ?

I wanted to mark this "poor" because it pisses me off so much.

Google designed the internet policies for North Korea and China. It's being beta tested there first before it's implementation here in the states. The Global Elite and NWO are really pushing a one world government. This is just one small piece of the big picture.
